This perfect balance is most evident when walking through the ultra-modern lens anufacturing facilities where our high-end glass lenses come to life. You'll see an array of highly advanced computers, robots and technicians, all focused on one thing – creating the most optically superior glass lenses on the market.

The process for our glass lens begins with a 4-inch piece of glass referred to as a "puck." The puck goes through a rigorous series of refinements that involve grinding and polishing. Although machines programmed to exacting tolerances perform the bulk of the work during this critical phase, the pucks are closely monitored and hand inspected by qualified technicians.

At the grinding stage, the puck is referred to as a blank and is ready for Serengeti's proprietary Hydrogen Firing Process. Elemental yet advanced, the hydrogen-fueled Lehr furnace can reach and maintain exact temperatures. The furnace's extremely-high temperature embeds the glass blank with photochromic technology and activates Serengeti's exclusive Spectral Control properties, locking them in through the life of the lens. The varying high temperature is also a determining factor in what color is being produced.

Once the lenses are removed from the furnace, they're allowed to cool before being treated with a special coating, which protects the lens as it's edged under the watchful gaze of the technician. All the way through the process, a technician ensures quality standards are met or exceeded. We wouldn't have it any other way.

555nm

55nmIdeal for bright light conditions, the 555nm lens manages yellow and green light transmissions to cool and relax the eyes. The light silver mirror coating further reduces eye strain by acting as a protective shield against glare.
