"Both of us were discussing all our fears and overwhelming uncertainty and then she said, “I think I’ll have a dance”. "

It’s sad to admit, but familiarity is a sedative we no longer have, and it does not matter where on this planet you sit right now, the view is scary. Everything feels out of control. However, I recently witnessed one measure that effectively calmed the chaos. I saw it happen on a walk with my wife. Both of us were discussing all our fears and overwhelming uncertainty and then she said, “I think I’ll have a dance.”

"It seemed [...] she had control of everything around her."

She stepped lightly through the sand and began to move her body with graceful purpose. A narrow focus overcame me as I watched, and all the weight of my awareness lightened (actually disappeared for the moment) under her influence. From this altered state, it seemed as though she had control of everything around her from the ground on which she moved, through the rocks and trees, all the way to the horizon then through the clouds and beyond the unseen moon and eventually out to the sun… All things felt composed by her and to each other once again. The power of this spell seemed to reconnect the fragments of my understanding that had splintered over the last two weeks.

"And when she stopped it occurred to me that we were standing on a giant rock."

And when she stopped it occurred to me that we were standing on a giant rock hurling through space at 67,000 miles an hour, and though we will never actually be able to control where it’s going, we can still dance all over it.
