Which Lens Type Should You Choose?

When ordering your prescription sunglasses, you'll need to select between Single Vision and Progressive lenses. Here's how to decide:

1 Single Vision Lenses (Most Common)
These lenses use a single prescription across the entire lens, ideal for one task like reading, driving, or distance vision. If your prescription doesn't include an "Add" power, this is likely your best option.
2 Progressive Lenses
These lenses offer a smooth transition between distance, intermediate, and near vision—without visible lines. If your prescription includes an "Add" power, progressive lenses are the right choice for seeing clearly at all ranges.

MEASURE YOUR PUPILLARY DISTANCE

Fill it myself
You need to measure your PD before continuing

What is PD (Pupillary Distance)?

Your PD is the distance between the centers of your pupils, measured in millimeters. This measurement ensures your prescription lenses are perfectly aligned with your eyes for optimal vision clarity.

1 Check Your Prescription
Look for "PD" or "Pupillary Distance" on your prescription. It may appear as a single number (e.g., PD: 63) or two numbers for each eye (e.g., PD: 31.5/31.5).
OD: -2.00 -1.25 x 180
OS: -2.50 -0.75 x 175
PD: 63 mm ← Look for this!
2 Check Previous Glasses Orders
If you've ordered glasses online before, check your order confirmation emails or account history. Your PD measurement is often saved with your prescription details.
3 Contact Your Eye Care Provider
Your optometrist or ophthalmologist has this measurement on file. Call their office and request your PD - they're required to provide it upon request.
💡 Pro Tip
Average PD for adults ranges from 54-74mm. For reference, women typically measure 53-65mm and men 59-74mm. If you're unsure, our measurement tool provides accurate results.

You don't know your PD value?

Your PD:
Measure my pupillary distance online

Pupillary Distance (PD) is the distance, in millimeters, between the center of each of your pupils. An accurate PD ensures optimal visual correction and prevents discomfort or eye strain.

Please read the following guidelines to ensure a smooth measurement:
1. Make sure you have a standard-sized cards to proceed with the process.
2. Good lighting in the room is essential for an accurate pupillary distance (PD) measurement.
3. Your ears should be visible, your posture should be straight, and there should be an arm's length distance between your eyes and the screen.
4. Avoid mirrors in the background to prevent reflections that could interfere with the measurement.
5. Maintain a stable internet connection to ensure a smooth and uninterrupted process.

Insurance Reimbursement for Prescription Sunglasses

Most vision insurance plans cover prescription sunglasses as medical devices!

How to Get Reimbursed:

1. Check Your Benefits: Contact your insurance provider to verify coverage for prescription sunglasses. Most plans cover them under your annual eyewear benefit.

2. Purchase Your Sunglasses: Complete your purchase and keep all receipts and documentation.

3. Submit Your Claim: You'll need:

  • Original itemized receipt
  • Prescription from your eye doctor
  • Insurance claim form (available from your provider)
  • Proof of payment

4. Get Reimbursed: Submit documents to your insurance company. Reimbursement typically takes 2-4 weeks.

Popular Insurance Providers That Cover Prescription Sunglasses:

  • VSP (Vision Service Plan)
  • EyeMed
  • Davis Vision
  • Humana Vision
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield Vision

Tip: Many insurance plans have separate allowances for regular glasses and sunglasses, so you may be able to use both benefits in the same year!

Using FSA/HSA for Prescription Sunglasses

Great news! Prescription sunglasses are FSA and HSA eligible expenses.

What Are FSA and HSA?

FSA (Flexible Spending Account): Pre-tax dollars from your paycheck that can be used for qualified medical expenses. Use it or lose it each year.

HSA (Health Savings Account): Tax-advantaged account paired with high-deductible health plans. Funds roll over year to year and earn interest.

How to Use Your FSA/HSA:

1. Pay with Your FSA/HSA Debit Card: Use your card at checkout just like a regular debit card.

2. Pay Out-of-Pocket and Get Reimbursed:

  • Pay with your personal card or cash
  • Submit receipts to your FSA/HSA administrator
  • Get reimbursed directly to your bank account

What You'll Need for Reimbursement:

  • Itemized receipt showing prescription sunglasses purchase
  • Copy of your prescription (if requested)
  • Completed reimbursement form from your FSA/HSA provider

Tax Benefits:

Using FSA/HSA funds means you're paying with pre-tax dollars, effectively giving you a discount equal to your tax rate (typically 22-32% savings!).

Important: Only prescription sunglasses qualify. Over-the-counter sunglasses are not FSA/HSA eligible.
